The Pediatric Advanced Life Support course offers the advanced healthcare provider a comprehensive understanding of treating the critically ill pediatric patient.  This course is Instructor-led and uses a series of simulated pediatric emergencies to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation and team dynamics. The goal of the Pediatric Advanced Life Support Course is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcomes. Upon meeting all course requirements, students receive an AHA PALS course completion card valid for 2 years.

Pre-course requirements:  This course is for the advanced healthcare provider. The American Heart Association PALS Provider manual is the textbook required for this course. Textbooks are not provided but are available for purchase at NWRTC.  The PALS Provider Course is designed to teach you the lifesaving skills required to be both a team member and a team leader in either an in-hospital or an out-of-hospital setting.  Because the PALS Provider Course covers extensive material in a short time, you will need to prepare for the course beforehand. Please give yourself ample time to read your manual and do the pre-course material.  Prior to the course you should also know ECG rhythm identification, related pharmacology and the systematic approach to pediatric assessment using the evaluate-identify-intervene model. Once you have signed up for this course you will receive a Pre-course letter that will explain the course in greater detail.  You will also be required to pass a written exam and skills evaluation at the end of the course.  Call if you have any questions.

Renewal of your BLS Healthcare Provider CPR card it is not included in the cost of your PALS class.  However, we do offer a Healthcare Provider CPR renewal option for anyone attending one of our PALS classes for a discounted cost of an additional $40.00.  The time for the class will be added at the end of PALS.  If you would like to register for this you can register by phone or come to the front office the day of your PALS course.
